AMD Radeon RX 6950XT with Navi 21 GPU at a higher clock speed

This week has certainly been productive for Greymon55, a leaker from Twitter focusing mainly on AMD unreleased hardware.

According to him, AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 6950XT card is to feature a boost speed over 2.5 GHz, which means it is a least 250 MHz higher than the existing air-cooled model and about 65 MHz faster than the Liquid Edition.

One should mention here AMD’s confusing enthusiast RX 6000 segment. The company has released as many as three variants of Radeon RX 6900XT graphics cards so far: the vanilla with Navi 21 XTX GPU, the liquid-cooled model with Navi 21 XTXH, and later air-cooled models launched by a few board partners equipped with the XTXH variant as well. It is expected that RX 6950XT will be using the XTXH variant, which is a higher-binned chip with increased maximum power and clocks.

AMD Navi 21 with 2.5 GHz+ clock speed is nothing extraordinary here, as there are models such as Sapphire Toxic Extreme (2730 MHz), Gigabyte AORUS Xtreme WF (2525 MHz), ASUS ROG STRIX LC (2525 MHz), or ASROCK OC Formula. What all these cards have in common is liquid cooling though. Meanwhile, the fastest air-cooled custom model is XFX Speedster MERC 319 with a clock speed of 2495 MHz.

At this moment it is unclear if the RX 6950XT is using liquid cooling or rather a custom liquid cooling solution. But whichever cooling technology this card uses, board partners will be ready to support it.

Furthermore, Greymon55 believes that RX 6950XT might have an even higher TBP (Typical Board Power) compared to all existing 6900 series models: 350W. This is even higher than Liquid Cooled 330W and 50W more than the vanilla 6900 XT series.

AMD’s new flagship is set to launch in Mid-April. This card might compete with GeForce RTX 3090 Ti which is also said to have faster memory and increased TDP over the original model.
