AMD might already showcase Radeon RX 7800/7700 at Gamescom

AMD is reportedly targeting a September release for its Navi 32 desktop GPUs.

According to the latest video by Moore’s Law is Dead, the GPU manufacturer has completed the development of its Navi 32 GPU and has already released functional drivers. The YouTuber has been closely following the progress of RDNA3 desktop development and was the first to leak information about the Navi 31/32 hybrid GPU, which could potentially feature 70 CUs (Compute Units) in a product that should come out later.

Furthermore, initial specifications for the Navi 32-based models have emerged. Although the names of the models are not confirmed, it is worth noting that the Radeon RX 7800XT was recently spotted in an EEC listing, indicating that it will come with 16GB of 256-bit memory. This particular variant is likely to utilize the full 60CU configuration of the GPU and will have a Total Board Power (TBP) of 260W. Another variant of the Navi 32 GPU, potentially named Radeon RX 7700 XT, is expected to support a 48 to 54 CU configuration with 12GB of memory on a 192-bit bus. The new information suggests both models would sport 19.5 Gbps memory.

In terms of availability, these GPU series are scheduled to make an appearance at Gamescom 2023 in Germany (August 23 – August 27, 2023), with a potential release date planned for September.

Additionally, the Navi 32 GPU is anticipated to debut as a high-end mobile model (RX 7800/7900) for gaming laptops. Currently, AMD has only launched its RX 7700/7600 series based on the Navi 33 GPU, which offers mid-range performance. The last flagship GPU, the RX 6800M, was introduced in May 2021 and received an update in May of the following year as the RX 6850M XT.

It is commonly believed that Navi 32 GPU launch has been postponed due to excess inventory of Navi 21 based RX 6900/6800 series. However, the rumors that Navi 32 might launch after 31 and 32 SKUs were dated even before the debut of the first RX 7000 graphics card.
