AMD Radeon RX 6700 compared to overclocked RTX 3060 Ti

The Radeon 6700 non-XT first appeared in June this year and was quickly released by companies such as Sapphire or XFX. However, the availability of these cards is still very low.

AMD had recently released official performance figures for this model, possibly as part of the new marketing effort to combat newly released products from competitors. Here it is worth noting that AMD did not release any performance data for this card yet, however full specs are listed on AMD website for a long time. So in that sense, performance claims are new.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 is based on cut-down Navi 22 GPU with 2304 Stream Processors. This model is also the only SKU in the gaming desktop RDNA2 lineup to feature 10GB GDDR6 memory across a 160-bit interface. Near identical configuration is used by Radeon RX 6700M for laptops.

It is worth reminding that NVIDIA is now introducing its GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with GDDR6X memory, while Intel finally launched its Arc A770 and A750 GPUs earlier this month. All these cards are expected to perform in the similar performance segment. Probably for this reason, AMD is comparing its RX 6700 to RTX 3060 Ti. Their SKU appears to be a match for the NVIDIA card, while both are outperformed by the 6700 XT variant.

There is just one thing to note here: the RTX 3060 Ti GPU is being compared while overclocked. It is very uncommon for companies to compare their products to other vendor’s solution featuring non-reference specs. The document’s footnotes do not explain whether this is custom’s model factory-overclocking or manual overclocking. However, AMD is confirming it’s a 230W TDP card, so at least we know it is not Founders Edition (which is limited to 220W). The defualt TDP/TBP for this card is 200W.

In such a configuration, AMD is claiming up to 33% better FPS/WATT compared to RTX 3060 Ti OC.

Although the card is 4 months old, there are still not that many reviews of this model available. The most recent overview we could find is from RandomGamingHD of the PowerColor model, but it is a gameplay style, not a direct comparison to any other GPUs. Still worth checking out, though.
