AMD announces $999 Radeon RX 7900 XTX, Radeon RX 7900 XT for $899

Today, AMD announced its first Radeon RX 7000 desktop cards, starting with the high-end 7900 series.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 series

The third generation RDNA architecture is finally here. The company introduces Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics cards. The first features a full Navi 31 GPU with 12288 FP32 cores (or 6144 Stream Processors), while the latter is based on a cut-down GPU with 10752 FP32 cores.

AMD RDNA3 architecture based on 5nm node is the first chiplet design for consumer Radeon GPUs. The GPU features one compute tile made in 5nm process with six memory chiplets made with 6nm node.

AMD confirm Navi 31 GPU has 58 billion transistors, and it offers up to 61 TFLOPs of single-precision compute performance. This GPU has 5.3 TB/s chiplet interconnect. With 5nm node, Navi 31 GPU has 165% higher transistor density compared to Navi 2X.

AMD is confirming that its new RX 7900 XTX will be up to 1.7x faster than RX 6950XT at 4K resolution. The RDNA3 architecture should offers 54% better performance per watt than RDNA2, according to AMD. The company is sharing first performance claims in some popular titles compared to the fastest RDNA2 GPU, but sadly, there is no comparison to RTX 40:

The Radeon 7900 XTX is the first Radeon card to support DisplayPort 2.1 display interface, offering up to 8K 165Hz support or 4K at 480 Hz.

AMD is confirming all clocks for its Radeon RX 7900 series. Starting with RX 7900XT, it will ship with base clock of 1.9 GHz, game clock of 2.3 GHz and boost up to 2.5 GHz. The RX 7900XT has 1.5 GHz base clock, 2.0 GHz game clock and boost up to 2.4 GHz. Memory clock will be the same for both models at 20 Gbps.

On the memory front, the XTX model comes with 24GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 20 Gbps. This SKU has 384-bit memory bus. The cut-down RX 7900 XT has 20GB of GDDR6 memory and 320-bit bus. This means that both cards have respectively 960 GB/s and 800 GB/s of maximum bandwidth. However, AMD is also providing ‘effective’ bandwidth figure at 3.5 TB/s for 7900XTX and 2.9 TB/s for 7900XT. This figure is associated with 96MB and 80MB of Infinity Cache located in the MCD dies.

AMD confirms Radeon RX 7900 XTX will cost $999 while RX 7900XT will retail at $899. Both cards will be available on December 13th.
