AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT & RX 7700 XT revealed, designed for 1440p gaming
At Gamescom AMD announces its mid-range RX 7000 GPUs.
AMD has unveiled two highly anticipated graphics cards: the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT, filling a crucial gap in AMD’s RDNA3 desktop lineup. Although we had some preliminary specs for the RX 7800 XT, we now have the complete details on both models.
For this launch, AMD introduced a new GPU named Navi 32. Although it was previously showcased, this marks its first deployment in a gaming series. The Navi 32 GPU boasts up to 60 Compute Units and a 256-bit memory bus, accompanied by 64MB of Infinity Cache.
The RX 7800 XT utilizes the full configuration of this GPU, featuring 60 CUs, 128 AI Accelerators, 16GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 19.5 Gbps over a 256-bit bus. The card will therefore offer fewer cores than the last-gen RX 6800 XT (72 CUs). The GPU’s clock speed reaches up to 2430 MHz, and it consumes 263W of power.
Interestingly, the RX 7700 XT‘s specifications surpass expectations. It employs 54 CUs and 108 AI Accelerators, a notable improvement over the previous-gen RX 6700 XT with its 40 CUs. This model also utilizes 12GB of GDDR6 memory across a 192-bit bus, although its memory clock is slightly lower at 18 Gbps. Notably, the RX 7700 XT exhibits a higher TBP compared to the RX 6700 XT, with a 15W increase to 245W.

Regarding performance, AMD claims that the RX 7800 XT will, on average, outpace the GeForce RTX 4070 by 3.5% in 1440p gaming with maximum settings. Some titles even demonstrate a 5% to 23% advantage, although certain games utilizing ray tracing favor the RTX 4070. In the same selection of titles and graphics settings, the RX 7700 XT is purportedly 12% faster on average compared to the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB card.

AMD confirms that there won’t be a reference model for the RX 7700 XT, although a render is available for marketing purposes. Only the RX 7800 XT will launch with the new dual-fan cooler, while the RX 7700 XT will be exclusively available through AIB partners. Additionally, AMD confirms that both the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT will support DisplayPort 2.1.
AMD RX 7800 XT will launch at $499 in the US and €549 in Europe. The RX 7700 XT will cost $449/€489. Both cards will be available on September 6th.
