New PlayStation 5 console has been pictured

It may not be much slimmer, though.

A recently surfaced photo circulating on the internet today was initially posted by a member of the Chinese A9VG forums. The image showcases an updated design of the Sony PS5 console, which some insiders are labeling as the ‘SLIM’ version. This iteration is likely the forthcoming iteration of the acclaimed gaming console, aligning with descriptions provided by other sources.

While the design primarily maintains the visual identity of the current PS5 series, there is a notable alteration in the form of a back slit positioned at the center. According to other insiders, the design is reported to be around 5cm shorter, although not necessarily thinner. Additionally, reports suggest that this version will incorporate dual USB Type-C ports at the front and a less curved Blu-ray drive enclosure compared to the original console.

Update: a video showing the alleged chassis for the new PS5 console has been shared by BwE:

Sony has not yet confirmed its intentions to release a new console. Nevertheless, a steady stream of rumors has been circulating, including the possibility of a PS5 variant with a removable disc drive. If these rumors hold true, it would offer gamers the option to purchase a more affordable digital-only edition and subsequently acquire the drive separately at a later time. However, it remains unclear whether these rumors pertain to the mentioned device or if they relate to a feature of a test kit, reportedly already in the hands of some individuals.
