Intel Xe

Intel’s highly anticipated entry into discrete graphics market has been warmly welcomed by the community. During the first “Ask You Anything” at Reddit, Intel employees were eager to hear the ideas for upcoming Intel discrete graphics naming.

Today Intel announced that their upcoming 2020 GPU architecture is codenamed Intel Xe (or Xe). This name simply replaces rumored ‘Arctic Sound’ or ‘Gen12’. What’s important to note is that this is the name of architecture, actual products will (and should) have different names.

Sadly, not many details were revealed about the architecture itself. During the Architecture Day, Intel stated that Xe will use 10nm fabrication technology. Intel further confirmed that Xe architecture will span across the whole market, including integrated, data center and consumer products. The last two will be developed as two separate microarchitectures.
