GIGABYTE working on GeForce GTX 1060 with GDDR5X memory

We have received an information from our source at Gigabyte that manufacturer is readying a new GDDR5X-based model.

The last GTX 10 series card?

It has been rather quiet under GTX brand in the past few weeks. Recent rumors suggest that GTX might return with 2060 series, although it was never really confirmed. Meanwhile, Pascal architecture which is slowly disappearing from stores, might still reappear under a new SKU.

The card we have heard about it clearly based on GP104 board, in fact, it looks identical to GeForce GTX 1080. Thus the new model could use a cut-down Pascal GP104 silicon.

Now, this is not really news, because GP104-based GTX 1060 model has been dormant in the driver for months now, although no models based on this SKU have been seen so far.

It is believed that GP104 GTX 1060 variant was made specifically for the Chinese market, where GTX 1060 is the most popular choice for Internet Cafes.

The problem with GeForce GTX 1060 series is that there are far too many variants. It is hard to keep track of what model is being tested or preinstalled in OEM systems. So yet another model is not going to make this any simpler.

We will keep you updated once we hear more, but the timing for GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X launch does seem interesting considering AMD is also working on Radeon RX 590…
