Gigabyte is the first AMD partner to announce Radeon RX Vega 56, a slower sibling of Vega 64.

No, it’s not a custom card. The first RX Vega 56 is a full reference design. In terms of design these cards are essentially the same as RX Vega 64, they even have a backplate. The only ‘addition’ is the Gigabyte sticker on the fan. AMD even kept dual 8-pin power connectors.

The RX Vega 56 is a direct competitor for GTX 1070. This card has 8GB HBM2 memory, 3584 Stream Processors and slightly lower clocks compared to 64.

AMD announced that RX Vega 56 will retail at 399 USD. There are no custom designs yet, so might actually be a very competitive and well-priced product.

We shall see the full potential of Vega 56 in upcoming reviews, which are expected to be published on Monday.
