Intel introduces Core-X platform with 9 new processors.
Intel Core i9-7980XE to challenge Ryzen Threadripper
After months of leaked slides and teasers, Intel made a last minute change to deliver a proper counterpart for Threadripper. The i9-7980XE CPU is currently the fastest consumer CPU with 18-cores. Although Intel made it official, exact specs remain unknown. What we do know is that it features 18-cores and 36 threads, 4 more than Ryzen Threadripper. This Extreme Edition will cost a whooping 2000 USD, so we expect Ryzen to be cheaper.
Product stack contains two architectures: Skylake-X and Kabylake-X. While it’s hard to explain what is 4C part doing here exactly we learn that there are 7 processors with more than 6 cores. The specs are only known for 7920X – 7800X. The 7800X and 7820X do not support Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0, which is a boost clock for individual cores to increase performance in single and dual-threaded applications. The pricing for 6-core part starts at 369 USD and spans up to 1999 USD for 7980XE.
