Fudzilla brought today some shocking news regarding the upcoming NVIDIA’s flagship, the GeForce GTX 780. According to the site, the card would feature only 256-bit interface, just the same as the GTX 680.
Apart from these breaking news, their post is nothing new actually, they mention the GTX 770 and GTX 760 Ti, with all the details first posted by BrightSideOfNews. However, there’s one line that doesn’t necessarily come from the BSN.
The fastest of them all, based on the huge GK110 chip is the Geforce GTX 780. The card also shares a 256-bit memory buss and is based on GTX Titan LE. The first cards come as Nvidia direct boards and will be directly supplied to partners.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 has 256-bit interface?
One would ask, what does it mean that it’s based on TITAN LE, since there is no such card, not even as a codename. As I mentioned multiple times, this name was just made up by somebody related to the HWiNFO software. Okay, but what’s with the memory interface? BSN told us it will feature 320-bit interface (not directly, but the memory size suggests that), while SweClockers are quite sure it will have 384-bit. Here you have Fudzilla telling us it has only 256-bit width. So which site is telling the truth? The 256-bit interface doesn’t really make sense for the GK110 GPU (it is supported by 384-bit memory controllers by default).
Another interesting part is where the site is claiming, that the GeForce GTX 780 may arrive a week earlier than previously reported, on May 16th. Well, maybe this is just NVIDIA sharing different information to see who is leaking again (yes, that’s how they roll). Personally I wouldn’t spend anything near $550+ price on a card that has only 256-bit interface. I would say only two possibilities are to be considered acceptable — 2.5/5GB 320-bit, or 3GB 384-bit.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 with TITAN-like cooler
Fudzilla also shared more info about the GTX 770. According to the site the reference cooler looks a lot like the TITAN’s. To be precisie, only because it looks like the TITAN’s cooler, it doesn’t mean it will be made of aluminum/magnesium alloy. You can even expect something like the BioStar’s design of the GeForce GT 640 aka a “budget GTX690” (more here). One thing is certain though, if the GTX 770 has such design, then the GTX 780 also has it.
Anyway, here’s a comparison of the possible specs from various sources, choose your own for now.
