Sapphire added today yet another version of the Radeon HD 7950 with Boost. So far the company has three other HD 7950 Boost cards in the lineup, including Flex and Vapor-X models.
The funny thing is that they still didn’t fix the typo in the description, while copying it for a new model. This text is used for few cards:
SAHHPIRE HD 7950 3GB with Boost now has the latest GDDR5 memory clocked at 5000MHz effective, and runs with a core clock speed of 850 MHz which with PowerTune Dynamic Boost rises to 925 MHz on the engine.
The new addition is retaining the same specs as previous models, it just looks like a new design of the cooler. To be specific, the only difference in the configuration to the other HD 7950 Boost card are the available display outputs. As for the GPU, it has the Tahiti Pro clocked at 850 MHz, which speeds up to 925 MHz while in Boost mode. The card packs 1792 Stream Processors, 112 Texture Units and 32 Raster Operation Units. The new Boost Edition also features a standard 3GB GDDR5 memory across a 384-bit interface. The memory is clocked at 5 GHz effective speed.
Sapphire is also promoting their TriXX software with this graphics card model, hoping that it will find new users. This was one of the few applications left out of our GPU overclocking utilities review due to the application only functioning on Sapphire branded cards without using a hack. Hopefully Sapphire realizes this is the largest limiting factor on public usage, however maybe this was a conscious choice to make it more of an exclusive OCing suite.
Sapphire’s HD 7950 Boost features a Dual-X technology, which is exactly what is sounds like, a dual fan cooling solution. You can clearly see a large heat sink and multiple copper heat pipes. Unfortunately you can also see the ugly color chosen for the PCB.
This card could be a good performer, just like the new Radeon HD 8950 OEM, based on the same board, which can reach a 1200 MHz core clock with ease. I have not seen this model available online yet, but that’s because the manufacturer does not provide the product codes on the site, which makes searching for the price even more challenging. If you happen to find this card listed on some site, make sure to share the exact price in the comments below.
