Gigabyte Adds Triple-slot GeForce GTX 680 Overclock Edition with 4GB Memory

Published: Sep 28th 2012, 12:53 GMT

Gigabyte has added a new model of GeForce GTX 680. This is the first GTX 680 4GB card in Gigabyte’s lineup.
Gigabyte’s GTX 680 Overclock Edition 4GB (GA-N680OC-4GD) would feature the same clocks as 2GB variant. The base clock is 1071 MHz, while the boost clock is 1137 MHz (also the memory is untouched at 6GHz). Despite this similarities, it’s a completely redesigned model. This card is the third GTX 680 to feature WindForce 3X cooling solution, however it is actually longer and higher by 2cm’s.  We can assume that the decision to use such a high heat-sinks was dictated by installation of more memory chips to cool down.

Gigabyte added an information that its new card will keep 28.3 dB noise level under Furmark test, however I encourage you not to use this software, at least too many times. From interesting facts, we can say that it has 6+2 phase design and features three 8mm copper heat pipes connecting two large heat sinks.

Anyway, has anyone keep tracking the OpenGL versions? First GTX 680 supports 4.1, this 4GB model supports 4.2. But I already know that GTX 650 Ti will support 4.3. I’m wondering if those card will support the newer version too. Below you can find a comparison of all GeForce GTX 680 models from Gigabyte, presentation slides and more user-made pictures.

As for this new addition to high-end graphics cards, price and availability is yet official, however I have seen few pictures on few forums, so some units were already sold. Chinese price of this card is around $800.
