Awaited since, pretty much the end of 2010, MSI’s Lightning-struck GeForce GTX 580 and Radeon HD 6970 have today made their debut, claiming to be dream cards for overclockers and gamers who want to squeeze every bit of power out of their graphics card.
The overclocking capabilities of both the R6970 Lightning and N580GTX Lightning are guaranteed by their highly-custom design which brings together Military Class II components (All Solid Caps, Super Ferrite Chokes, Hi-c Cap with a Tantalum core), a significantly-upgraded PWM (18-phase on the R6970, 16-phase for the N580GTX), independent memory power, four Proadlizer capacitors, CopperMOS MOSFET, and support for GPU/Memory/PLL(VDDCI) voltage adjustments.
MSI’s card are also equipped with a Twin Frozr III cooler which packs two 90mm PWM fans with Propeller blades, and three copper heatpipes, and is supposed to be quieter (up to 5DB/11dB) and more efficient that the reference GTX 580/HD 6990 fansinks.
