AMD’s incoming flagship graphics card, the Radeon HD 6990 (codename Antilles) is expected to make its debut next week (on March 8th) but the ways of the interweb have made it so that nobody has to wait until then to know what it’s all about.
Seen below are some of the slides from the AMD-compiled presentation of the Radeon HD 6990, the card which is expected to take the performance crown and battle NVIDIA’s rumored GeForce GTX 590.
To ensure it delivers top numbers, AMD’s offering makes use of two Cayman GPUs clocked at 830 MHz (880 MHz on the OC mode which is activated through a BIOS switch) and has 3072 Stream Processors, 192 Texture Units, a 2x 256-bit memory interface, and 4GB of GDDR5 memory set to 5000 MHz.
The Radeon HD 6990 requires extra power via two 8-pin PCIe connectors, features a maximum board power of just under 375W (but it can go up to 450W when overclocked), an idle power draw of just 37W, and is equipped with a newly-designed dual-slot cooler with two vapor chambers and one center fan. CrossFireX is supported, allowing for dual-card setups, as is the Eyefinity technology which is backed by one DVI and four mini DisplayPort 1.2 outputs.
The card’s price tag is still MIA but it should leak soon enough.
