NVIDIA: GT206, GT212, GT216 and GT300

hardware-infos.com – For industry-related circles, we have insight info of the ongoing NVIDIA plans and thereby create an overview of what the Californian graphics specialists soon to be expected. It had, among other things, surprisingly, found that NVIDIA in the end of 2009 will launch the  GT3xx-generation DirectX 11 cards. Sooner they will try to remain GT2xx-GT206, GT212 and GT216 competitive. Following an overview of the current NVIDIA plans:

  • GT206: Q4/2008, 55 nm
  • GT212: Q1/2009, 40 nm
  • GT216: Q2/2009, 40 nm
  • GT300: Q4/2009, 40 nm

Accordingly, we have with the GT206 later this year of 55 nm refresh of the GT200 into the house, originally once in August / September, then still under the code name GT200b. Because of various difficulties – is still unconfirmed rumors that the GT206 problems with the timing of the Shader domain would – seems the launch but now seems again rearwards to be postponed, even after the NVIDIA nearby colleagues Nvnews still a few weeks ago from a launch on 22 October,.

In the first quarter of 2009, and, if possible before the launch RV870, NVIDIA wants to be the GT212 is. This is an NVIDIA graphics chip in 40 nm manufacturing process. Whether this even more execution units than GT200/GT206 possess or favored by the manufacturing process more simply beat, we do not yet know exactly. Presumably it will, however, hardware changes, although the DirectX 11 – support will definitely not be included.

For the late second quarter 2009, CENS was at last from June 2009 speech, then the GT216 – also in the 40 nm process – follow. However its nnclear if it is a GT212, or simply a new version of the GT206, in a dual-core could lead. Relatively safe, however, is the use of GDDR5 instead of GDDR3 memory.
Certainly on board should be DirectX 11. What other architectural changes it will give it can currently only be suspected. The next weeks and months will be here hopefully mean more concrete details.
