9800 GX2 – a new monster from NVIDIA

NVIDIA several months preparing a new graphics card, previously known under the code name D9E. On store shelves see it as a GeForce 9800 GX2. It will be called. “Sandwich”, consisting of two connected via the SLI platelet PCBs, in a single housing density challenges. On each of the tiles will be one D9P chip and 512 MB of the 256-bit memory (a total of 1 GB). NVIDIA in the past has offered a similar structure in the form of GeForce 7950 GTX.

The first tests of new cards provide a number of interesting information. First, the 9800 GX2 to act needs about 200 watts, which is a simple consequence of its high operating temperature. To start, you must connect it to two additional plug – one 3×2 and one 4×2. With the cooling GeForce 9800 GX2 represents a huge copper radiator and fan placed between plates of PCBs.

GeForce 9800 GX2 will be a competitor for the upcoming Radeon 3870 X2 – it seems that the former will be slightly faster, but ATI product cheaper, chłodniejszy and more easily available.

The new “kanapkowa” NVIDIA card should appear on the market in mid-February.
