ASUS is refreshing their line-up with new models. This time they released a new revision of Radeon HD 7950 – also in triple-slot design – and two models of Radeon HD 7870.

This is a triple-slot revision of the previous Radeon HD 7950. Card has modified cooler and PCB, which is shorter in this model. The HD 7950 DC2 V2 features a core clock of 900 MHz and memory clock of 5GHz (this card does not have PowerTune technology). Card packs 3GB of GDDR5 memory operating on 384-bit interface. For comparison to previous design head on to this post.

There are two models of HD 7870 here. This one has reference clocks of 1GHz and 4.8 Gbps memory speed. Card comes with 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

This card looks the same as the one above. The TOP model arrives with factory-overclocked configuration, clocks were increased to 1.1GHz and memory to effective 5GHz.

Nice find Videocardz, they are upgrading DC II cooler to V2, the 7870 1100GHZ seems a great model for me, if price don´t exceed 270 EUR.

You already bought it? That was fast ;)

What was the problem ( if any ) with V1? What’s the difference here? Some useful info would be nice.

  • skr13

Nah, not yet, but maybe next week, if i found for a good deal.

A love from first sight? Would still go for 7870 while there’s €310 7950 for on Pixmania?

  • skr13

Not sure, but Pixmania has increased price on many cards, 7950 VTX3D is now 360 EUR.
In Germany Pixmania the same Sapphire card is available for 290 EUR, instead of 310 in Portugal.

    7870 at 1100MHZ = GTX 580, of course that 7950 OC=GTX 670, but more expensive.

“AMD Launches Three New Models Of Radeon HD 7950 and HD 7870 DirectCUII” – no AMD only ASUS launches

  • BestJinjo

Come on man, you don’t want to suffer AMD drivers. You had enough problems with your 5850 :)

Is the 7870 a good enough upgrade form the 5850 though? I’d go for GTX670/HD7950 + OC, or wait for HD8000/GTX700 series. HD5850 is still plenty fast if you disable tessellation and lay off texture mods (1GB).

  • skr13

What?, after 5850 i had GTX 560Ti and already sold both , how many times i need to remember you that, i have a shitty Nvidia G210 :)

7950 still expensive, and my pacience is almost over, and GTX 670 also need drop damm price.
Nvidia GTX 660 Ti costs same as 7950.
AMD drivers, good point, but i have 15 days return card period, enought time to bench/gaming.
“The world is gonna explode before i get a new card”

  • BestJinjo

At the rate you are buying, by the time you get a new card, it’ll be the end of this generation! Might as well wait for HD8000 series at this point.

  • skr13

Maybe wait for 8000 will be a better option, or a used GTX 680/670, for half price.
You think of buy another card for next generation? Or still satisfied with current?

  • BestJinjo

skr13, did you end up buying a card yet? HD7870 prices are dropping now because AMD is pressured by GTX660/660Ti launches. Lots of good cards for you to choose from.

Myself I just got a 3rd 7970 because I use them for bitcoin mining outside of games. I would love to get a GTX780 or something very fast but for now my AMD cards are making $ since electricity cost is so cheap here in North America. When bitcoin mining fails, I’ll use those funds for future GPU upgrades. Performance wise, even a single GTX570/660Ti/7950 is plenty for my needs at 1080P> :)
