EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified Available For $660

EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified Available For $660 new card geforce gtx 680 4gb
EVGA has just listed their new flagship model based on GeForce GTX 680 graphics card. Model known as Classified is the most powerful variant of all single-gpu cards from this manufacturer.

EVGA’s GTX 680 Classified is a graphics card equipped with 4GB of GDDR5 memory. Company has decided to set base clock to 1111 MHz. while boost clock is set to 1176 MHz. Memory clock was not changed and remains at standard 6GHz.

While, there are already dual-GTX680 cards coming, this one is the fastest one based on single GPU. Card is featuring 8+8 power design with 14 phases on PWM. Since this card has 4GB of memory mounted on dual-sided c, which is twice as much as reference GTX 680, it comes with a backplate.

If you are planning to get one, make sure you have a proper power supply, since it has to be capable of supporting at least 550 Watts, and therefore, you will have to connect it by two 8-pin power connectors.

Card is available at EVGA’s store for $659.99. It comes with a 3 year limited warranty. You can only purchase one unit per household.

That seems abit… excessive. I guess that pretty common at the top of the range tho

That price is ridiculous. 1176 mhz boost is nothing special. Doesn’t even say if the card comes with voltage unlocked for that price. I am hearing you have to pay $100 to get EV Bot to unlock the voltages, taking the total price to $760!

Ya right. That’s almost the price of 2x Giga Windforce 670 cards in SLI and easily the price of HD7950 CF cards that will mop the floor with this thing.

That’s the thing about this generation. It’s not fast enough for key titles where you need the speed at 2560×1600 (Metro 2033, Crysis 2, Dirt Showdown, BF3, Witcher 2 Uber Sampling) and yet the 5-10% performance difference between various 7970/680 models won’t make any noticeable difference at 1080P. This card is purely for e-peen and/setting overclocking records (and mostly a money grab from EVGA). Look at the HD 7970 MSI Lightning and how nice that card is and yet it still is under $550……EVGA has gone downhill.

21 fps at 2560×1600 in Dirt Showdown…..ummm ya:

“It comes with a 3 year limited warranty, which requires registration.”
It does not require registration anymore, check the new warranty policy.

    Corrected.

Probably the worst optimized game ever released.

Agreed. The graphics are not any better than Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 but it runs like garbage!

MSI Lightning 680 has an MSRP of $580. That’s $80 less than this EVGA card. Not sure what EVGA is smoking.

May I ask you what is your graphics card anyway? You know more than average user, so I’m wondering what is your actual GPU?

MSI’s GTX 680 Lightning is probably the best solution for enthusiasts right now.

Hey. I am using a shader unlocked HD6950 at 6970 speeds. I generally try to go for bang for the buck. This generation I was waiting to see how things play out. I am not happy with HD7870 and GTX660Ti is MIA. AMD raised the price of HD7970 to $550 from $379 of HD6970, making it very difficult to upgrade from a price/performance standpoint for someone like me.

However, I finally saved up enough to upgrade to a $500 card. With recent Cats 12.7, the performance of HD7970 improved quiet a bit but I am obviously not satisfied with the reference cooler. I am thinking of grabbing the 7970 since I don’t play BF3, which is a game that runs very well on GTX670/680 cards. I also run some GPGPU tasks such as Milkyway@Home that performs better on AMD cards. Otherwise, I think GTX670 is the best bang for the buck (outside of HD6870 on the low end). I agree with you that MSI GTX680 Lightning is an amazing card, but it’s $600 on Newegg. Does it support voltage unlocking though? MSI promised that for the GTX670 Hawk and so far it’s not yet supported in the latest version of MSI afterburner.

I think $600 for the MSI Lighting is too expensive considering how quickly GPUs drop in price once next generation launches. Also that’s 50% more expensive than a good GTX670 for maybe 15% more performance once both are overclocked.

Do you tend to buy top of the line and dump it right before it gets replaced? What’s your strategy for upgrading? I know a lot of enthusiasts use that method to keep on the bleeding edge without losing more than $100-150 a year in upgrade costs.

GTX 680 Lightning is said to have powerlimit of 200% (as I remember).
First of all, I’m not enthusiast. To be enthusiast in GPU industry, you have to either have lot’s of money, or just review cards, so they are delivered to you for free. At the moment, I don’t even have a desktop pc. Nevertheless, I always tried to choose the best solution, so did i purchase 6600 LE (with voltage mod to GT) or 8800 GT (the best card I’ve ever owned). There were plenty of other cards, but I’ve never bought the top model. I’m currently using GT555M (bad ass card), actually it even works in BF3 :)

Right now I’m considering Gigabyte GTX670 WindForce 3X (Europe price $475), later to upgrade to SLI.
But the prices of 7970 are quite similar ($510), so I will wait a bit until they level.

Right but see this new definition of “Enthusiast” is almost snobbish. You don’t have to own $500-1000 GPUs to be an enthusiast. In the “old” days it meant getting the cheapest possible PC part and overclocking it to reach the top end performance (like E6300/E6400 Core 2 Duo @ 3.4ghz, Q6600 @ 3.2-3.4ghz, Core i7 920 @ 4.0ghz, unlocking 9500Pro into a 9700, etc.). Today when people throw the term Enthusiast it’s usually about how much $ they spent on hardware like 3960X for $1k and Quad-SLI 690s. To me we are all enthusiasts since we build computers from scratch and share this hobby. 8800GT was an amazing card btw.

I just don’t think GTX680 MSI Lighting is worth the $600+ though. I’d rather get $450 HD7970 / $400 GTX670 Windforce / $430 Asus DirectCUII 670 and overclock those and pocket the $150-200 difference towards the future :)- And that’s exactly what I am going to do!
