Afterburner crew managed to activate voltage control without hardware modifications. As they say, it took them a while to develop a working algorytm using reverse engineering skills.
First of all, this is not a stable solution. Overclocking Radeon HD 7970 to 1278 MHz with a 1.3V can hardly finish a 3Dmark11 benchmark. It is however a significant overclock of graphics processing unit, which on stock runs at 925MHz, that’s 38% more.
With these clocks stock cooler, with a 70% RPM, keeps temperature at 70 degrees Celisus while card is at 100% load.
Guru3D has released some benchmark results with their software overclocking applied.
