XFX Radeon HD 6950 XXX Review @ TweakNews

After it initial release, the AMD Radeon HD 6950 became the popular option that enthusiasts and gamers were considering the best bang for the buck if an upgrade to AMD’s latest generation of videocard was considered. Not only did it provide solid gaming performance with sufficient power to play even the newest games with above average resolution and quality settings, it also became a target for tweakers which could in part upgrade it to a pseudo HD 6970 though a quick BIOS flash. As for the overclockers, the HD 6950 2Gb didn’t seem to be an overclockers dream whereas the 1Gb variety seemed to overclock much higher than its more memory laden twin brother.
Continuing down that patch, XFX has capitalized on this advantage by releasing the XFX HD 6950 XXX version which is modestly overclocked by 30Mhz core and 50Mhz DDR5 memory right out of the box for about US$20 more than the stock clocked version. But XFX didn’t just stop there and throw the card into the package for consumers. They also strapped on a much more substantial cooler to keeps temperatures low and thus keep the card as stable as possible.
But you know me, I couldn’t just settle for their overclock, I had to see exactly what this card was capable of doing and where the overclocking ceiling REALLY is and whether the revised and updated cooler is up to the job of handling much more than this products set clock rates.
