XFX Radeon HD 5830 Video Card Review @ LegitReviews

XFX Radeon HD 5830 Video Card Review - XFX Radeon HD 5830 Graphics Card - Legit Reviews

XFX has made a name for itself in the world of computers for a couple of reasons. First and fore most is the quality of their products. From my personal experience I have had eight of their cards in my machines over the past few years. The only issue that I have had is a fan on the GeForce 9800GTX had failed.

I don’t recall if I called them or if I contacted them by e-mail but I had an open RMA ticket that night. That brings up another feature that is an advantage of XFX, the Double Lifetime Warranty. As long as you register your graphics card it is covered for as long as you own it. What is the double part you ask, well as long as you registered the card for the warranty, you can transfer that warranty to another person. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. But I digress, today we are going to take a look at a Radeon HD 5830 from, yup, you guessed it XFX.

The Radeon HD 5830 has been called the big brother to the Radeon HD 5770 and the little brother to the Radeon HD 5870. The XFX Radeon HD 5830 has the same number of transistors as the other Radeon HD 5800 series cards, but has fewer stream processors and half the ROPs. With just 1120 stream processors the Radeon HD 5830 has 22% less stream processors than the Radeon HD 5850, but tries to make up for it with a higher clock frequency on the stream processors that it does have. By running at 800MHz rather than 725MHz it means that that the overall compute performance of the Radeon HD 5830 is an impressive 1.79 TFLOPs, which is ~14% behind the Radeon HD 5850 and nearly 32% ahead of the Radeon HD 5770!
