ATI presents Havok Cloth – multiplatform physics engine

Havok (owned by Intel), together with ATI presented the first part of the new physics engine multiplatformowego. It is the Havok Cloth. The engine allows for realistic behavior of the presentation materials (clothes) and hair. It is part of an open standard OpenCL, which will be supported by graphics cards from different manufacturers.

Today, Havok Cloth can use the possibility of ATI Radeon graphics cards by ATI Technologies Stream. In the future, support will be added to the nVidia card (CUDA-enabled), and perhaps also of other producers (S3 Chrome, Intel Larrabee)

The engine can also be implemented by the CPU (like PhysX), but then you should not expect too much performance. The film presents the possibility of a new engine can be seen on Channel OpenCL.

The first games to use Havok Cloth appear already in spring this year.
