In 2008 AMD refreshes Radeons 2400 and 2600

Already at the beginning of next year the group AMD / ATI put up for sale two new graphics processors – RV620 and RV635. This will be a refreshed version of the current R610 (located on the card Radeon HD 2400) and R630 (Radeon HD 2600). The new chips will be manufactured in 55nm process technology, and so on 10nm less than that used at present. Clock frequencies will be increased to 800 MHz, and production will take place in factories TSMC.

Change is not only the technological process, will also be modernized architecture of the new GPU. RV620 and RV635 will be provided with support Shader Model 4.1 and DirectX 10.1 and DisplayPort connectors. It will also support standard PCI-Express in the new version 2.0.

The first sample chips are tested (EVT – engineering validation test) in October this year, and the store shelves in the form of papers will be ready in January 2008. New bone will be used on existing cards, so that manufacturers will not have to design new tiles from the PCBs.

The new GPU will be sold in alternatives XT and Pro. Although the official name of the new bones are not yet known, it is likely they will be marked as Radeon HD 2650 and Radeon HD 2450.
